SPBS pursued a mission to nominate an individual for its Distinguished Service Award with sustained contribution to the federation in multiple avenues. The committee wanted someone with a genuine personal zeal to make a difference.
SPBS found an educator, a coach, an author, social commentator, a historian and collector/producer of original St. Kitts music, and someone who continues to invest in young people through his counsel and gifts – both at CEMSS and also with sports teams in Basseterre. Because of his personal drive to quietly improve and positively impact the lives of many from CEMSS, McKnight and the broader St. Kitts community, SPBS is proud to honor Seymour “Tally” Davis at the 2014 Awards Banquet in NY on August 30th.
Seymour "Tally" Davis is a proud citizen of the community of Mc Knight, Basseterre, St. Kitts. His parents were William Davis of Mc Knight, and Muriel Davis of Parham Town Antigua. His formal educational sojourn commenced at Ms. Thomas Pre-school and thereafter, he attended the Irish Town Primary School and the Basseterre High School from which he graduated in 1975.
Mr. Davis joined the teaching profession and gave educational instruction in Science at the Sandy Point High School (SPHS) from 1975 to 1982. He attained professional training at the St Kitts Teachers’ College from 1982 to 1984 and returned to the classroom to continue his teaching sojourn.
He pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of the Virgin Islands; he graduated in 1990. His love for the teaching profession has not waned. Currently, Mr. Davis is an instructor in English at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands.
Mr. Davis is an innovative and energetic facilitator of learning; he has an extraordinary teaching track record in terms of his range of strategies and demonstrated excellence. He loves his job immensely and demonstrates this by keeping his classes fun and interesting, caring for the students, encouraging their best thinking and providing motivational strategies for their success.
Davis's passion for youth development has defined his career. During his years of teaching, his passion for the student’s holist development through the inclusion of sports became visibly evident. From renowned track meets, soccer, basketball and cricket competitions to auspicious Queen Shows, Davis's dedicated and committed voluntary service is unparalleled to date.
Noteworthy is Mr. Davis’ devotion to community and his overwhelming pride in giving back. In 2011 he founded the Concerned Citizens for a Better Mc Knight Group with professionals from the area. They have assisted students of the Irish town Primary School but their overall goal is to encourage and support positive behavior in the Mc Knight area.
Conscious music is a valued extension of Davis's existence. This passion for music is manifested in his weekly program titled ‘Memory Lane’ aired every Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. on 107.9 FM, or Davybe.com. Davis is a writer and dramatist who wrote, acted and directed plays and recently published an interesting vivid description of his childhood experiences in his book entitled "The Mc Knight I Knew." The book has an accompanying CD: "Mc Knight is the Place To Be."
Seymour "Tally Davis" is married to the charming and adorable Evadine Carty Davis. Their union produced two handsome and talented sons, Shomari and Tabari Davis.
