“The outcome was not surprising following a very successful 2013” remarked members of the Executive Committee of the Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS) after the group’s Annual elections held in October 2013. The membership decided to re-elect Dr. Mervyn (Pluto) Richardson as the President. Not only was the previous president returned for another year, but also his entire leadership team of the previous year was returned unopposed and given a renewed mandate to lead the organization into 2014.
    The Executive is as follows:
    Charles Mills                                                Chairperson
    Mervyn Richardson                                   President
    W. Vincent Hodge                                      Vice President
    Collette Joseph                                            Secretary
    Winston Benjamin                                     Assistant Secretary
    Trevor Duggins                                           Treasurer
    Anthony E. Warner                                   Assistant Treasurer
    Stewart Williams                                        Public Relations Officer

Accepting the display of confidence in his leadership and his team, Dr. Richardson was quick to thank his team and reminded the Executive Committee of the importance of meeting the targets and growth indicators they established for themselves. Mr. President further highlighted the need to drive some of the key growth initiatives during the next year. These initiatives include:
    ·        Expanding Scholarship Program for Full Time College Students
    ·        Implementation of a new Award Program targeting exemplary performance of the most recent graduates of CEMSS and alumni of CEMSS graduating from of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College

    ·        Introduction of a New Mentoring Initiative (in collaboration with CEMSS)

Currently, the SPBS Executive Committee is already busy planning its activities for the upcoming year with the hope of adding more fundraisers to the three they already have: the Easter Breakfast, the Annual Cruise Raffle and the Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony (which has been acclaimed the function to attend in 2014).
The Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS) is a not- for- profit organization which has as its motto: Empowerment through Education. It is an alumni association of the Sandy Point High School (now the Charles E.
